It’s great being healthy, isn’t it?
But what is ‘healthy’ anyway?
I guess it’s different for each individual but generally speaking, it means you eat well, sleep well, exercise regularly, drink plenty of water, manage your stress levels and so on.
All of that usually means you feel good, have lots of energy and are happy with your weight.
But it’s tough!!
Trying to keep all of that in check is difficult and obstacles get in the way – work, kids, friends, TV!!
I remember spending some time (not too long ago) in Keswick where I had the pleasure of meditating with 40-odd other people – well, that was the idea!
It sounds idyllic of course but the reality wasn’t quite so. You see, when I sat down to meditate (by the way, it’s not some weird chanting meditation that I do – it’s much simpler than that!), I drifted off to sleep.
I tried to meditate again and I drifted off to sleep again! This was a repeating process over the weekend.
The course was also full board, which meant breakfast, lunch and evening meal were included.
And here’s what I did…
I ate banana sponge and custard, a scone with cream and jam and a few odd ‘naughty’ bits and pieces!
Oh no, have I just messed up all my hard work?
I’m not sure but do you know what? I didn’t feel guilty eating any of it. I know, I know, it’s not very good food.
It was my holiday though so please forgive me! It wasn’t even a moment of weakness either because I actually planned to eat some rubbish.
It’s true – it was planned!
One thing I wasn’t tempted by was the Spotted Dick with custard – no thanks!!
My point here is you should eat well 80-90% of the time BUT…
Enjoy your treats 10-20%. I wouldn’t usually have banana sponge and the sugar content was very noticeable.
But I’m back on the game now but on the healthy living game.
I’m lifting weights, buying lots of fruit and vegetables, cutting down on my meat intake, enjoying lots of healthy smoothies, having porridge every morning, including nuts and seeds in my snacks, using herbs and spices in my cooking, walking 5 miles every day, breathing clean air, drinking more water…
I’m back on it and the effects of the banana sponge have worn off.
So, don’t beat yourself up when you indulge a little. NEVER feel guilty!
Just get back on the game and continue where you left off.
