You know what’s it like when you’re busy – healthy eating can go out of the window. You get up in the morning, after pressing the snooze button 4 times, and are in a rush. The kids need feeding, you need to shower, you have to iron your work clothes and so on.
You get stressed out! You haven’t eaten anything either but you don’t care, off to work you go.
Mid-morning, you get hungry but you were in such a rush that you forgot to pack any snacks or lunch.
So, what happens? You reach for the ‘ugly’ snack foods from the vending machine or the snack trolley! Don’t get me wrong but snacking can be a part of a healthy diet plan and can help you keep your energy levels stable throughout the day. But, choosing the wrong snack foods can do more harm than good.
There are many snacks that some people are choosing on a regular basis that are virtually toxic to the body.
Here are my 3 ‘ugly’ snacks:
1. Anything with Processed Cheese
Whether it’s cheese spread, or some other form of artificial cheese, they are generally not a good idea. They’re often very high in chemicals and can also add some saturated or even trans fats into your diet plan. If you want cheese, opt for Feta or Goats’ cheese and you’ll provide your body with more vitamins and minerals.
2. Crisps and Crackers
Don’t be fooled that the ‘low fat’ variety of crisps and crackers are healthy. These are still not a healthy addition to your diet. They typically contain trans fats, which are the worst kinds of fats that you could be eating. Also, these snacks are full of processed carbs that will send blood glucose levels soaring and then crashing shortly thereafter.
3. Cereal and Energy Bars
Not only are these very high in sugar and high-glucose fructose corn syrup, many also contain artificial food dyes or colourings, which can harm your body. Also, they contain very little protein in most cases, so won’t provide you with a balanced snack.
So there you have my 3 snacks to AVOID at all costs. What to have instead? Well, my Detox meal planner has many healthy snacks you can choose from. Download it free (plus you’ll get an extra report on weight loss also free).
